Kristina Benson, MA, LPCC, works from an understanding that the mind and body are inherently connected and that we must continue cultivating a symbiotic relationship between the two. Kelsey Middleton is a third year of graduate school in the Transpersonal Art Therapy program at Naropa University. Her belief is that all human beings hold the capacity to heal within themselves, and that there is a tremendous amount of room for healing to occur. The heart of healing is being present and compassionate to what is, while also being supported and witnessed in that presence and compassion.
As a therapist, she holds a holistic therapeutic approach, appreciating how the mind, body, and spirit all contribute to health, well-being, and balance. Kelsey offers a variety of therapeutic interventions including mindfulness, somatic embodiment, nature-connection, art-based, and creative expression. Lisa Kennemur, MA, Lisa marries her love of nature and of helping others with her work supporting people in discovering their own inner wisdom and innate tendency towards healing. Having navigated several major life changes (including leaving her nearly 25-year career in the United States Navy where she served as a medical physicist/radiation health specialist to channel her passion for helping others into therapy and rites of passage work), Lisa specializes in guiding others through personal growth, chronic illness, transitions, evolutions and major life changes. Heather Menzie May, MA is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Yoga Therapist, teacher, and wilderness guide. Since 2001, Heather has been leading therapeutic wilderness expeditions through the mountains and rivers of Colorado and Utah. Heather earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Wilderness Therapy through Naropa University and has a private practice in Evergreen, CO. She integrates EMDR Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Wilderness Therapy into her work with clients. Heather is the co-founder of The Strong and Mindful Family Program, which involves bringing families out into the wild to strengthen their relationships. Heather is a mother to her 6 year old son. Her favorite family adventures include floating down the river in a raft, dory, or canoe, watching herons take their flight through the canyon, being in community with friends and family, and introducing people to the beauty of a sky full of stars.
Haaweatea Holly Bryson, MA specializes in transformation, trauma and life transition. She works with individuals and families as a Therapist, Māori Healing practitioner, Rite of Passage Trainer, and Vision Quest guide. Nature Knows is a subsidiary of The Suzerain Group in Hawai’i, where she is the Lead Therapist and Trainer. She has worked with communities toward the ressurgence of Rites of Passage across Australia, Aotearoa, China, the US, and Hawai’i. Sommerville Johnston, LPC, SEP, RYT 200 is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, wilderness guide, yoga instructor, and founder of Aspen Roots Collective. She is passionate about facilitating opportunities for individuals and groups to connect with the natural world, to explore their inner-landscapes, and to discover within themselves a strength and beauty more powerful than they previously knew. She has worked in the mental health field since 2010 and in the outdoors since 2000, incorporating curiosity, humor, deep compassion, and respect into her various roles. Tami Gilmore, MA, LPC is a passionate advocate for integrating the healing power of nature with therapeutic practice. As a traditional and wilderness therapist, Tami has dedicated her career to guiding individuals on transformative journeys of self-discovery and healing.
The "Courting Your Medicine" program, facilitated by the Somatic Wilderness Therapy Institute, has been a pivotal experience in Tami's personal and professional growth. Through this transformative journey, she has expanded emotionally and spiritually, finding profound meaning and connection with nature and herself. Tami treasures the lifelong relationships forged during this program and continues to be inspired by the community of like-minded individuals committed to sharing their authentic medicine with the world.
With a teacher's heart and a learner's spirit, Tami finds inspiration in the resilience and brilliance of others. She delights in hearing their life stories and guiding them on their path to healing and self-discovery. Armed with a BA in Psychology and an MA in Counseling, Tami has supplemented her formal education with extensive training in EMDR, Somatic Therapy, IFS therapy, and various programs offered by the Somatic Wilderness Therapy Institute.
Combining her love for the outdoors with her passion for helping others, she now runs a successful private practice and a wilderness therapy retreat company.
For nearly 30 years, Melody Mischke has been seeking to define her purpose and give it life in the world. She is a certified Transformational Coach, Heart-Based Meditation Instructor, Ayurvedic Practitioner, Yoga Teacher, Writer, and Intuitive. She began studying meditation in India at the age of 18, has degrees in both Environmental Science and Contemporary Spirituality, and is a primary contributor to Banyan Botanicals’ written educational content. She founded both her private practice (Live In Resonance) and a partnership with her brother (Luminous You) to help guide others into a more intimate relationship with their innermost essence and purpose. She is a passionate skier, wilderness adventurer, and singer with a profound devotion to her family, to wild places, and to elevating consciousness on the planet. She lives in Evergreen, Colorado with her husband and son.

Angela Merrill believes that our capacity to evolve and grow is earth shattering, just like the roots of a tree. She is the founder of Expanding Roots Integrative Wellness and part of the founding team at One Small Planet. Angela is an integrative psychotherapist, nature-based therapist, group facilitator, supervisor, environmental advocate and teaches for the Somatic Nature Therapy Institute. She enjoys rafting, skiing, hiking with her sweet pup, and whatever other nourishing ways she can spend time in nature. She has been working in the mental health field for over 20 years and loves sharing her passion for this work with others.

Danielle Militzer, MBA, is a seasoned professional in operations management, project management, and business strategy. Currently, Danielle serves in the Online Business Manager Role with the Somatic Nature Therapy Institute. With a track record of delivering exceptional results, she founded Milli Operations LLC in 2021, specializing in fractional operations support. In roles such as Director of Operations, Danielle streamlined operations for diverse industries, including marketing agencies, therapy clinics, online course creators, and healthcare facilities.
Before Milli Operations, she served in the Executive Director role at several senior care facilities. Danielle's early career involved roles at healthcare organizations, ensuring project coordination and smooth operations. Holding certifications like Certified Director of Operations and Nursing Home Administrator License, Personal Care Home Administrator License, and Assisted Living Administrator License she earned recognition for her compassionate approach in healthcare across the healthcare continuum.
With a Master's in Healthcare Business Administration and a Bachelor's from the University of Pittsburgh, Danielle is equipped for operational success. Driven by a commitment to excellence and innovation, she looks forward to contributing to the growth of businesses and organizations.
Paula Walker, LDO, is a Program Manager Assistant at the Somatic Nature Therapy Institute. Paula is a native of Jasper, Georgia, and grew up playing outdoors in the North Georgia mountains. She was an early adopter of grounding practices and prefers to be barefoot whenever possible, as she loves the connection to earth and nature. Paula is also a mom, wife, sister, and lover of animals. She bred and showed French Bulldogs for more than 10 years. She produced many many grand champion dogs, but her primary goal was always to produce healthy, friendly, and lovable dogs for families who love the breed as much as she does.
She worked in the optical industry for over 30 years as a licensed optician. She comes to the Institute by way of her sister, Lisa, the program manager. Paula and Lisa have always shared a tight bond and they love to work with each other!
Cara Bryans is a seasoned social media coordinator specializing in the health and wellness industry. With years of experience in digital marketing and a background in healthcare, Cara brings a unique perspective to her work, blending her deep understanding of the health and wellness sector with her expertise in marketing strategy.
Driven by a passion for making a meaningful impact, Cara crafts tailored marketing strategies that resonate with audiences and drive results. Her strategic approach and attention to detail ensure that every campaign is not only optimized for success but also aligned with the unique goals and values of her clients.
Outside of work, Cara finds joy in spending quality time with her family, exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Colorado, and indulging in her love for board games and baking adventures with her two toddlers. As a Colorado native, she draws inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding her, often finding solace and creativity in the great outdoors
Marina Gil is a Latina Digital Business Manager with five years of experience helping outdoor, women-owned small companies gain back time, get organized and streamline their processes, so they can focus on taking more clients, making more money, and wandering outside. She’s the Virtual Administrative Assistant for the Somatic Nature Therapy Institute involved in a variety of tasks, from data collection to building email sequences. She’s worked with more than 10 outdoor brands, helping them move forward their missions with great success and enthusiasm.
In her free time, Marina hikes, camps, and does CrossFit. Marina understands how important it is for her clients to spend time in nature, and truly connect with the present moment, while still running a business.
